The design of this NY townhouse garden apartment was a response to what we found after all the layers were peeled away from the original surfaces. Structural reinforcements were added to floors, and repairs to the aging mortar and brick. Then we got to work creating a plush screening room with magnificent acoustics, with light and sound buffered by heavy linen curtains and other irregular finished surfaces. Earth-pigmented hand plaster, carbonized and unfinished oak floors, reclaimed American chestnut cabinetry, and lots of exposed structural elements abound.
